Jiuzhaigou (九寨沟) is a world-famous national park and nature reserve located in Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 and designated a biosphere reserve in 1997.

Jiuzhaigou is famous for its beautiful natural scenery of turquoise lakes, crystal clear waterfalls, lush forests, and snow-capped mountains, as well as its cultural diversity from the Tibetan and Qiang communities living in the area.

1. From Chengdu

By plane

Fly from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport to Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport

It takes about 1 hour

From the airport to Jiuzhaigou, it takes about 1.5–2 hours by taxi or hired car

By bus

Take a bus from Chengdu Chadianzi Bus Station (成都茶店子车站)

It takes about 8–10 hours

The fare is about 150–200 yuan

By private car or rental car

It takes about 8–10 hours (about 450 kilometers)

1. Best time

Autumn (September–November): The leaves change color The lakes and mountains are the most colorful.

Winter (December–February): Nature is covered with snow, the atmosphere is quiet.

2. Prepare for the trip.

The weather in the area is quite cold all year round, especially in winter. You should wear warm clothes.

The park is located in a high area (2,000–4,500 meters), be careful of altitude sickness.
