The Henan University Auditorium, officially known as the 'Former Site of the Henan Preparatory School for Studying in Europe and America at Henan University,' is a key cultural relic protection unit of the sixth batch at the national level. It was built in 1931 and took three years to complete, serving as a famous historical building of Henan University. It is a model of architectural style from the Republic of China period and a classic of that era's architecture. The Henan University Auditorium began its restoration project in November 2023, with the work expected to take 180 days. It was supposed to be completed by April 7, 2024, but the delay has continued to this day, and it is still not finished. The auditorium was under renovation when the fire broke out. According to the investigation, the fire is suspected to have been caused by construction workers resting inside the auditorium, and the specific cause is still under investigation. The Henan University Auditorium is not just a classic building; for over ninety years, countless Henan University students have graduated inside the auditorium and taken photos outside it, making it a sacred place in the hearts of many. Yet, such a great building that carries history was destroyed in the name of 'cultural relic protection.'
