Kanazawa Ishiura Shrine (Permanent Lighthouse) Edo period land lighthouse

Ishiura Shrine in the heart of Kanazawa not only offers a sacred and tranquil atmosphere, but also boasts a rare wooden lighthouse, the Tokoyano Lighthouse, located on the road leading to Kenrokuen Garden.

This structure, resembling a stone lantern, is actually a land-based lighthouse from the late Edo period. Kitamaebune ships and fishing boats departing from Kanashi Port could see its light from far out at sea, serving as a crucial guide between the city and the harbor.

Today, the Tokoyano Lighthouse still stands quietly within the grounds of Ishiura Shrine, telling the story of navigation centuries ago. If you pass by this spot on your travels, don't forget to stop and take a closer look at this historic lighthouse.
