Calling all mint lovers! Visit the Kitami Mint Memorial Museum in Kitami, the world's leading mint city.
This charming museum, marked by its adorable pastel-colored building, is a must-see. Once upon a time, Kitami accounted for 70% of the global mint market. The two-story museum welcomes visitors by having them fill out an entry card (indicating where they’re from) at the entrance.
Inside, you’ll find exhibits explaining how mint is produced, showcasing different types of mint, and displaying items that use mint. It’s fascinating to learn that mint, commonly known as xylitol, is used in everyday products like toothpaste and pain relief patches.
On the second floor, there’s a unique corner where you can compare the scents of various herbs. Open the cases to experience the aromas of lemongrass, rosemary, and more. This sensory experience is something you can’t replicate at home, making it truly refreshing.
Outside the building, there’s a herb garden that flourishes in the summer. Visiting during early summer is highly recommended to enjoy the lush greenery.
