Kotor: A Timeless Jewel on the Bay of Montenegro

Nestled at the edge of the stunning Bay of Kotor, this medieval town is a captivating blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. My day in Kotor started with wandering through its ancient, maze-like streets lined with charming stone buildings and bustling cafés. The imposing city walls are a highlight, offering a rewarding climb up to the fortress with breathtaking panoramic views of the bay and surrounding mountains.
While Kotor itself is more famous for its historic old town than beach life, nearby are beautiful spots like Dobrota and the nearby beaches where crystal-clear waters invite refreshing swims. The harbor area is lively with boats and seafood restaurants serving fresh local fish and traditional Montenegrin dishes—must-try specialties include black risotto and fresh oysters.
Getting here is easy by bus or car from other Montenegrin towns, and the town’s compact size makes it perfect for exploring on foot. Pro tip: Visit early in the morning to avoid the cruise crowds and capture the serene beauty of the bay as the morning light dances on the water.
