Sushi Ori was selected as a ‘Michelin Selected Restaurant’ in the 2025 Michelin Guide Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur & Penang).
It was also listed in the Michelin Guide when I visited in 2024.
Sushi Ori is one of the top premium sushi restaurants locally.
I never expected to enjoy such a luxurious and fresh
high-end omakase in Malaysia,
Whenever I visit a new country or city,
I always read the Michelin Guide and try to visit restaurants from it,
and this place truly impressed me.
The chef is Hideaki Oritsuki (Ori-san),
who lived in Japan for over 10 years and honed traditional Edomae sushi techniques.
The sushi rice (shari) is made with Akita red vinegar, and fresh ingredients are flown in from Japan three times a week,
making it like an artistic experience for all the senses.
You sit at the counter and eat each piece directly as the chef prepares it.
This is the classic authentic omakase style.
It wasn’t a flashy show or a chatty atmosphere,
but the chef was very serious and focused, which made it even more immersive.
The vinegared rice (shari) was firmer and more acidic than regular white rice,
and almost all the fish were directly sourced from Hokkaido, Japan.
The interior is modern black,
very clean and luxurious.
The tableware was unbelievably beautiful,
making it fun to examine each piece.
Highly recommended if you visit Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
