Where seafood tanks meet teppan

#cityplaybook

This place has been on my to go list for a long while but the price usually put me off when I think of dropping a visit. But one fine day I got a treat from my besty haha…so there I came.

Walking into Yamaguchi Fish Market in Kuala Lumpur, the first thing that hit me was the sight—and sound—of bubbling tanks lining the entrance, filled with live seafood.

It immediately set the tone: this isn’t just a restaurant, it’s part wet market, part dining experience. I picked my seafood from the tanks and was pleasantly surprised by the range of preparation styles offered—both Japanese and Chinese.

According to my friend, uni and ikura were enjoyably fresh. But in my bowl of negitoro, I found the umami to be rather decent, so I think the seafood I got was not of the best season.
