Ryoanji Temple

Philosophy of life hidden in the rock garden

Ryoanji Temple is one of the most famous ancient Zen temples in Japan.
This temple is located in the northwest of Kyoto.
Originally, this temple was a residence of a lord in the Heian period, but in 1450
it was transformed into a temple and also a religious school.

The highlight that makes this temple most famous
is probably the ancient rock garden that contains meaning and philosophy of life.
There is a story that there are 15 rocks in this rock garden, but no matter which angle you look at, you will not be able to see all 15 rocks in one angle.
This can be interpreted from looking at the rocks as a philosophy from many perspectives.

You can get here by train or bus.
However, I recommend taking the bus because it is closer.
This temple is not far from the Golden Temple, so
if anyone comes to visit the Golden Temple, you might want to add Ryoanji Temple to your itinerary that day.
By allowing us to take bus number 59
and get off at Ryoanji Mae Bus Stop.
