Kiyomizu-dera – Kyoto's famous temple

Kiyomizu-dera – Kiyomizu-dera – The Sacred Wood Temple in Kyoto

Kiyomizu-dera is one of the most beautiful temples in Kyoto and is a popular destination for both tourists and spiritualists! The highlight of this temple is the large wooden terrace extending from the main building. It was built without using a single nail and offers a panoramic view of Kyoto. The peak season is especially beautiful during the autumn leaves and cherry blossom seasons.

The walk up to the temple is just as enjoyable, with Japanese sweet shops, cafes, souvenir shops, and an old-fashioned atmosphere that makes you stop and take pictures every few steps.

Must-see highlights:
• Drink the sacred water from Otowa Waterfall
• Pray for love at Jishu Shrine
• The view from the wooden terrace in the evening is so beautiful!

How to get there:

From Kyoto Station:
• Take bus number 100 or 206 (bound for Kiyomizu-michi or Gojo-zaka)
• Get off at Kiyomizu-michi or Gojo-zaka bus stop
• Walk uphill for about 10 minutes to reach the temple

Tips:
• The road to the temple is quite steep, so wear comfortable shoes for easy walking
• If you come during peak season (sakura/autumn leaves), it is recommended to come early in the morning

Admission fee: ~400 yen
Opening hours: 6:00 – 18:00 (sometimes until 21:00 when there is lighting)

This temple is both beautiful and sacred, with great views and lots of food. Anyone who comes to Kyoto must come at least once!
