Nestled within the serene grounds of the Kyoto International Conference Center, NIWA Café is usually accessible only to event attendees—but on rare Open Days, the café, parts of the lobby, and the beautiful garden are open to the public.

I visited on one of these special days and enjoyed a quiet lunch surrounded by architecture and nature. I ordered the curry and a glass of iced tea—simple but flavorful, and just right for a relaxed midday break. The café space is bright and calm, making it a great spot to recharge while soaking in the rare access to this unique facility.

If you’re lucky enough to catch an Open Day, it’s well worth a visit—for the food, the peaceful vibe, and the view of the surrounding garden.
