A Pleasant Ryokan Experience

This was quite a delightful surprise. We booked mainly for the ryokan itself, and it lived up to expectations. The room was enormous, the largest we encountered in Japan, offering an amazing view of the Kamo River and the stepping stones. Though limited English was spoken, the staff provided us with great printed instructions and were incredibly welcoming and helpful. We adored this hotel; it provided an authentic Japanese experience, especially the breakfast, which was very traditional and tasty. The onson was lovely—it took some time for my western mind to overcome the initial shyness, but it was completely worthwhile. The location is just a 7 to 10-minute walk from the subway station and a 5-minute stroll to the Kyoto National Gardens. It is also surrounded by excellent little eateries. I would definitely choose to stay here again.
