Explore the famous historic Giant Buddha

Visiting the Leshan Giant Buddha was seriously one of the most humbling moments on my Chengdu adventure! This giant legend stands a whopping 71 meters tall, carved straight into the cliff and casually overlooking the jaw-dropping spot where three rivers meet. Majestic, chill, and totally next-level — this Buddha is the ultimate vibe.✨
The trip over is already gorgeous: think lush, green vibes everywhere and the soothing sounds of the river rushing by. When I finally rolled up to the Buddha, I was absolutely shook by its sheer size. No joke, looking up from the base, you can barely fit the whole thing in frame — just the head is as tall as a full-on building! Yet somehow, with all that size, the Buddha’s face is pure peace mode, watching over the rivers and everyone below like an ancient guardian.
There are two ways to totally level up your experience:
- By foot: Brave the narrow cliffside steps for the ultimate up-close look from head to toe. The stairs are steep and can get packed, but the views are so worth it!
- By boat: Float along the river and get that full panoramic view of the Buddha, framed by cliffs. TBH, this perspective is next level for taking in its true grandeur.
Don’t skip the temple grounds! Peaceful halls, incense floating through the air, and dreamy scenic spots make this area an absolute chill-zone after climbing or cruising.
Here’s the scoop for planning:
- Leshan Giant Buddha (乐山大佛)
- Address: 2435 Lingyun Road, Shizhong District, Leshan City
- Opening Hours: Apr 1-Oct 7: 07:30-18:30, 19:30-22:30 (last entry 21:30); Oct 8–Mar 31: 08:00-17:30, 19:00-22:00 (last entry 21:00)
- Admission: ¥80
My final vibes? Leshan Giant Buddha is SO much more than a tourist spot — it’s basically living history, spiritual devotion, and jaw-dropping nature all rolled into one. If you want deep feels (and epic pics for the ‘gram) after buzzing around Chengdu’s city life, Leshan is where the magic happens.
