During my first visit to 🇵🇹 Portugal, I fell in love with the tile art scattered across the streets and corners of the country 😍💕
On my second visit, I discovered that Lisbon has a National Tile Museum 🤩. However, the location is a bit remote, not near the main attractions, and it’s a paid museum, so many people tend to skip it or choose other destinations instead.
Since I purchased the Lisbon City Card this time, which grants free access to this museum, I couldn’t resist visiting it despite the distance 🤩. It’s about a 30-minute drive from the city center—not too far in terms of travel time, but not the most convenient location 😂.
📍 The National Tile Museum has two floors with multiple rooms showcasing different themes, types, and eras of tiles. The exhibits include artistic, religious, and more everyday styles. In Portugal, tiles are not only a form of living art but also a representation of historical culture!
Every corner of the museum is so unique 😍, making it perfect for taking photos 📷. The most surprising part for me was discovering a small chapel inside the museum. At the end of the exhibition, there’s an incredibly long tile mural 😍, which feels like Portugal’s version of the famous Chinese painting "Along the River During the Qingming Festival"!
Personally, I think the National Tile Museum is truly worth visiting. Many of the tiles are fascinating, including Disney crossover tiles, a clock made of tiles ⏰, and even QR codes made of tiles!
If you’re visiting Lisbon and have some time, consider adding this museum to your itinerary!
