You've seen photos of Kappa Bridge in Kamikochi in various places!
I've always wanted to go, and finally got the chance to!
When I saw photos of Kamikochi, I thought they were photoshopped, but seeing it in person was a shock! It was truly beautiful!!! It was like being in a different country. I would definitely recommend this place to nature lovers.
[Sightseeing Tips]---
○ If you go, definitely stay overnight in Kamikochi
→ Hiking in Kamikochi is the best thing about it, but the mornings are definitely the best time to go, when there aren't many people.
Also, hiking routes usually head to Taisho Pond or Myojin Pond, both near Kappa Bridge. Both take over an hour round trip, so if you're just doing a day trip, you'll either get off the bus at Taisho Pond and walk to Kappa Bridge, or go from Kappa Bridge to Myojin Pond and come back.
Kamikochi has private car restrictions, so it can be quite time-consuming to get there, so I recommend staying overnight and enjoying a leisurely hike starting early the next morning!
○ Wear hiking boots
→ Even if you're not mountain climbing, it's always a good idea to have them if you're hiking. The footing was rougher and more slippery than expected, and many areas were wet with dew from the grass.
○ Insect repellent and long pants are essential
→ Hiking trails are generally paved, but the overgrown grass can sting your feet, and you'll get plenty of mosquito bites.
[Caution] --------
○ You can't drive to Kamikochi
→ To protect the environment, you'll need to park in a nearby parking lot and take a bus. So, pack as lightly as possible.
Since I was staying at Konashidaira Campground, I brought the bare minimum: a tent, sleeping bag, and tarp. I also bought a lot of food because I thought the store would be expensive, but it was so heavy I regretted it. Konashidaira Campground also rents out tarps and sells a wide variety of food, and the food and drinks were about the same price as buying them at the supermarket. Camping equipment is not expensive to rent, so we recommend bringing as little luggage as possible and purchasing it locally.
