Milan Cathedral (Duomo)

In Italy, the main church (cathedral) that serves as the center of a town or city is generally called the "Duomo." I was impressed by the exterior, but the interior was also beautiful.

Official Name: Cattedrale di Santa Maria Nascente (Cathedral Dedicated to the Birth of the Virgin Mary)

Construction Period: Construction began in 1386 and took over 500 years to complete (final completion was declared in 1965)

Features: One of the world's largest Gothic buildings. Its majestic white marble exterior and countless spires (135) and statues of saints (over 3,000) are impressive.

Height: The tallest spire is 108 meters, and atop it gleams the "Golden Madonnina."

Location: Located in central Milan, facing Piazza del Duomo, it's a popular tourist hub.
Nearest Station: Directly connected to the subway station "Duomo."
