Moscow is greeting educators not just with words of gratitude—but with large-scale public art
Ahead of Teachers’ Day, celebrated in Russia on October 5, central Moscow has transformed into an open letter of appreciation to educators. On Pushkinskaya Square, a monumental floral sculpture has been installed—towering over three meters tall, with petals crafted from recycled materials and stems made of real bamboo. Nearby, on Nikolskaya Street, an installation of “open notebooks” displays heartfelt messages from Muscovites: “Thank you for knowledge,” “You inspire us,” “Dream with us.”
The project was initiated by the Moscow Department of Culture with support from Mosgorpark. According to department representatives, the goal was not merely decorative: “Teaching remains one of the most respected professions in Russia. We wanted every passerby to physically feel this gratitude—to stop, read, and take a photo.”
The installations will remain on display until October 8. Organizers have also launched the online campaign #thankyouteacher , where Muscovites can share personal messages and stories about their mentors.
