Nagasaki. The food and drink district around Shianbashi

If you wander through the alleys around Nagasaki's Shianbashi tram station, you'll come across streets with many names.

"Shianbashi," "Shianbashi Yokocho," "Yanagi Koji Street," "Maruyamacho," "Funadaikumachi Shopping Arcade," and more.

Just looking at the fonts on the storefronts gives you a sense of the times.

Even outside of Chinatown, there are Chinese restaurants with storefronts typical of Nagasaki.

Their reasonable prices and displays of set menus suggest they are renowned restaurants supporting the food culture of the common people.

One of the joys of sightseeing is seeing things from a local perspective rather than a traveler's.

If you can explore the backstreets of a familiar city, exploring the main streets as well as the main streets can add depth to your trip.

This was a stroll on October 30th.
