[Yamaguchi] Motonosumi Shrine: A vermilion torii gate leading to the sea

#JapanTravelGuide

Motonosumi Shrine, located on the coast of Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is a spectacular spot with a row of 123 vermilion torii gates.

The torii gates continue along the cliffs to the sea, creating an overwhelmingly beautiful contrast with the blue Sea of Japan. This striking landscape earned it a place on CNN's list of "Japan's 31 Most Beautiful Places," making it a popular spot for both domestic and international travelers.

The main shrine is located on a small hill, offering a dynamic view of the torii gates and the sea. Even more unique is the offering box installed on the large torii gate. It's a whopping 6 meters high, and it's said that if you throw something into it, your wish will come true. Watching people try it is also a fun experience.
