Tsumago-juku, one of the most well-preserved post towns in Japan

Walking into Tsumago-juku is like stepping back into the Edo period. This important post station on the Nakasendo Road is one of Japan's best-preserved post stations, reminiscent of an old post station. The cobblestone paths, black-tiled wooden houses, and old shops with wooden signs exude a rich historical atmosphere. Locals meticulously maintain the landscaping, even undergrounding electrical wires, preserving the street's quaint appearance.

As I walked, I imagined travelers from Kyoto or Edo stopping here to rest, dine, or stay. Today, the streets offer handicraft shops, teahouses, and stalls selling snacks like gohei-mochi (gohei-mochi), making it a delightful place to stroll and eat. The sunset illuminates the post station, adding to its nostalgic romance.
