Nagoya Castle Traditional Castle

Nagoya Castle is a castle located in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

Nagoya Castle, one of the most famous traditional castles in Japan, has been designated as a special national historic site and has the same value as a national treasure.

The Honmaru Palace in Nagoya Castle was built in 1615 as the residence of the lord of the Owari domain. It was also used as a government office for the feudal domain. As a building of Nagoya Castle, it was designated as the first national treasure along with the castle tower, but it was burned down in an air raid during World War II in 1945. Now, it has been meticulously restored according to drawings from the Edo period (1603-1867), and in 2018, it has regained its former splendor.
