Naminoue Shrine: Okinawa's main guardian shrine, built atop a cliff.

While sightseeing in Okinawa, we visited Naminoue Shrine. It's one of the "Eight Ryukyu Shrines, Guardian Shrines of the Ryukyu Kings," located in Naha City.
Naminoue Shrine is built on a cliff on a raised coral reef right next to Naminoue Beach, so I recommend viewing the main shrine across the water from the road overlooking the ocean. It's a spectacular view. The shrine, with its vermilion-lacquered Ryukyu roof tiles, is a typical Okinawan design. The use of shisa (lion dogs) instead of lion dogs is also a very Okinawan feature. It's definitely worth a visit!
