An Urban Oasis That Delights Strolling Travelers: Osaka Kitahama Nakanoshima

Nakanoshima is nestled between the Dojima River and Tosabori River, which flow from east to west through central Osaka. It is the administrative, economic, and cultural heart of Osaka City. Here, besides the city administration buildings, banks, and newspaper offices, various cultural facilities such as parks, art museums, and libraries are concentrated. The riverside promenade is perfect for a city walk, where you can see the towering Asahi Shimbun and Osaka Conrad buildings reaching into the clouds. The Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library and Osaka City Central Public Hall are Western-style buildings constructed 100 years ago, with brick and stone exteriors exuding a romantic, vintage artistic vibe. Kansai Electric Power, as a major partner of Expo 2025 Osaka, has set up a photo spot featuring the mascot Maimai at its headquarters building. Then comes the destination of this trip: the black box-like Nakanoshima Museum of Art.

Nakanoshima Rose Garden | A Healing Sea of Flowers in the City Center
As soon as you enter the garden, you are amazed by the entire field of roses! It feels like stepping into a beautiful painting.
This is a very popular photo spot, perfect for the whole family to visit together!

The overall park design is excellent; you can walk to the east end, which is very quiet. Some people are sunbathing, others are reading or chatting on the lawn. The sky is clear, the weather is warming up, yet it remains quite comfortable. The rose garden stretches along the northern waterfront all the way to the Ceramic Museum. If you head toward central Nakanoshima, there is also a section of roses on the south bank. In short, when visiting Osaka at this time, don’t just rush to the Expo and shopping—Nakanoshima is worth spending time in to enjoy the elegant, water-rich atmosphere of Osaka.
