Nanjing / Six Dynasties Museum
Nanjing is the ancient capital of six dynasties: Eastern Wu, Eastern Jin, Song, Qi, Liang, and Chen.
Online reviews of this museum are mixed. As it's a site museum, maintenance requires funding, which I understand, since the "Emperor's Six-Horse Chariot" and the Imperial Examination Museum are also site museums.
The site of the Six Dynasties Museum is located in the basement exhibition hall; it's an ancient city wall that preserves rock layers from multiple dynasties, allowing for continuous research and thus possessing high historical value.
The exhibits themselves aren't particularly extensive. It's better to visit and stroll among the artifacts, passing the time. If you want to see more artifacts, the Nanjing Museum is more suitable.
The Six Dynasties are quite distant from us, and the surviving artifacts are relatively few. Even so, historians continue to excavate and prove, a spirit I admire.
The Six Dynasties Museum also has some temporary exhibitions. If you're interested, you can spend a whole afternoon here, making your trip worthwhile. It's not crowded, allowing you to fully enjoy the afternoon.
I think the hairstyles of the Six Dynasties terracotta figurines are really different from those unearthed from the Han Dynasty. The Han Dynasty had crowns and topknots, but the Six Dynasties terracotta figurines have truly unique styles; it's the first time I've ever seen anything like them!
