Decided! Taking the kids to Hulunbuir for a 22°C summer vacation

Anyone who has visited Hulunbuir becomes enchanted by its landscapes and cherishes the memories forever 🤗. Here, you'll find meandering rivers and wildflower-covered hillsides! Kids can run freely across the grasslands, ride fairy-tale trains 🚂, cuddle adorable lambs 🐑, feed 🫎 elk in birch forests, horseback ride to mountain peaks 🐎 for sunset views, craft sunflowers, and savor delicious 🥙 Russian cuisine. I previously visited Hulunbuir in June with elderly family members and children, so I prepared an extremely detailed itinerary. Here’s my 7-day, 6-night travel plan for you!

🖼️ Our itinerary:
D1: Departure - Hulunbuir · Hailar
D2: Hailar - Private Pasture - Genhe
D3: Genhe - Aoluguya - Moerdaoga - White Deer Island
D4: White Deer Island - Genbai Highway - Enhe
D5: Enhe - Heishantou - Badaguan - Eji Hometown
D6: Eji Hometown - 186 Colorful River - Manzhouli
D7: Manzhouli - Barhu Tribe - Hailar, Departure

✨ Practical tips:
1️⃣ Traveled with kids for 7 days, exploring Hulunbuir's private pastures, Genhe, Aoluguya, Moerdaoga, White Deer Island, Manzhouli, Eji Hometown, 186 Colorful River, and Heishantou. We entered the private pasture by pickup truck—a real local herder's land, free from crowded tourist spots.
3️⃣ The most stunning scenery is along the way. Several families joined us, and to relax while keeping the kids entertained, we opted for a family-friendly group tour.
4️⃣ For local specialties, buy unique foods at each stop: Hailar’s beef jerky, dairy products, and other Mongolian treats; Manzhouli’s Russian candies and chocolates; Genhe’s blueberries, mushrooms, and forest delicacies.
5️⃣ Avoid random roadside horseback riding. Choose licensed ranches, especially near Heishantou, where horses are trained, insured, and gentler.
6️⃣ Hulunbuir often has sun showers 🌦️, but they pass quickly—you might even catch a rainbow 🌈! No need to worry.
7️⃣ Summer grass is lush, and while insects are plentiful, most don’t bite.
8️⃣ Great food and lodging experiences: stay in 🏨 traditional wooden lodges 🛖, gaze at grasslands from a yurt ☘️, or try the Matryoshka Doll Hotel 🪆.

✨ Must-try foods:
✅ Mongolian hotpot: "Grassland Ballad" in Hailar is the most authentic.
✅ Hand-grabbed mutton: "Herder’s Home" in Heishantou serves it fresh.
✅ Russian breakfast: Homemade blueberry jam with bread at Enhe village B&Bs.
✅ Roast whole lamb: Best for groups of 8+—we shared one with other families.
✅ Dairy treats: Yogurt, milk skin, and milk curds—kids devoured them daily.
