Bitan, located in Xindian District where the Xindian River flows through, is named for its wide and clear waters. It was once one of Taiwan's "Eight Scenic Spots and Twelve Attractions" (also known as Chibi Pool, Shibi Pool, and Small Chibi). Its history dates back to the Japanese colonial period, and in 1927, it was selected as one of the eight major scenic spots, witnessing the continuation of cultural memories in northern Taiwan.
🌉 Suspension Bridge and Lakeside Charm
• Bitan Suspension Bridge: Built in 1937, it features a double-tower, double-hinge, single-span design, with a total length of about 186 meters and a width of 3.5 meters. After several renovations, it was designated as a municipal historic site in 2013 and is one of Bitan's landmarks.
• Beauty Day and Night: During the day, you can enjoy the lake and mountain views as well as the riverside trails from the bridge. At night, LED lights paired with a light and water show reflect on the lake, creating a fairyland-like scene.
🚣♀️ Diverse Recreational Activities: Lake Activities and Family Spaces
• Boating Options: Rent swan boats, pedal boats, or electric boats to enjoy the close-up views of the water.
• Cycling Tours: Connect to the Xindian River bike path, which allows you to ride all the way to Banqiao Riverside with scenic views along the way.
• Trail Walks: The "Hemei Mountain Trail" on the west side is perfect for family hikes and firefly watching, while trails along the green line offer views of Taipei 101.
🎨 East Bank Vibes: Night Views, Dining, and Creative Atmosphere
The east bank features scenic restaurants, specialty snacks, art installations, and staircase paintings. The evening scenery is enchanting, making it a great spot for photography and leisure. Since 2019, the "Bitan Landscape Art Festival" has been held annually, including exhibitions like the Jimmy Moonlight Show, Sanrio character art installations, and laser light water shows. This year's event continues to create a dialogue between art and nature.
