⛏️ Mine memories under the light and shadow of the mountain city: a trip to the Houtong Tunnel

Traveling along the banks of the Keelung River, Houtong, a small town nestled among mountains, quietly preserves traces of Taiwan's mining history. Entering the Ruisan Coal Preparation Plant, the massive steel structures and time-worn walls speak of its former prosperity. Following the trail to the Houtong Mine Recreation Park, the dim lights and humid air at the tunnel entrance create a uniquely nostalgic atmosphere, as if stepping back in time, allowing one to imagine the miners toiling away.

After leaving the tunnel, settle into the riverside café at Kuan Ge's Side, sipping a pour-over coffee in the gentle breeze while gazing out at the bridge and emerald river in the valley. The pace of the journey slows down in this moment.

Houtong's charm lies not only in its history and scenery, but also in its tranquil sense of time. When the sun shines on the railroad tracks, this mining town still gleams with its own light.
