A Guide to Photographing the Secret Temples of Obanazawa

Hidden away in the city of Yamagata Hanazawa, Toshinji Temple is a well-preserved ancient Japanese-style wooden temple. Combining traditional architectural craftsmanship with a secluded atmosphere, the surroundings are serene, and when the weather is good, the sun shines on the wooden beams, adding a Zen feel, perfect for those who want to experience authentic Japanese temple culture or want to find a secluded place to relax.
Recommended tour routes:
From the city of Ohanazawa, it is recommended to take public transportation or drive to the temple (682-1 Oboroke, Obanazawa, Yamagata 999-4222 Japan), the countryside scenery along the way is very healing. The entrance to the temple is unpretentious. After entering, you can go around the temple to admire the wooden structure main hall. The temple has a small number of stone statues of Buddha and traditional gardens, slowly walk around, breathe some fresh air, feel meditative as relaxing.

1. Main hall wooden structure: A closer look at the roof beams and wood carvings, each folding corner shows traditional craftsmanship.
2. Stone statue of Buddha and dry mountain water garden: suitable for shooting Japanese temple atmosphere photos.
3. Stone steps in front of the temple: Standing on the steps and looking out, the rural scenery is unobstructed.
Game Tips:
- The temple is smaller in scale and visits about 30 minutes to 1 hour. It is recommended to bring a small amount of meals and can find a simple picnic at a produce direct store nearby.
- The temple does not have too many commercial elements, suitable for those who enjoy a tranquil itinerary.
- Keep quiet and respect the local culture while worshiping. Can donate a small amount of sesame oil money to express your heart.
- Walking shoes are recommended, there are stone steps and dirt in and around the temple.
- Watch out for mosquitoes when visiting in summer, remember to spray mosquito repellent.
Notes:
- Changshinji Temple is not a tourist hotspot, the on-site information is mostly in Japanese, can be assisted by a translation app.
- Some areas may not be open to the outside, only visit the main buildings and gardens.
