For Kyoto, I went in the morning and returned in the evening. I didn't stay overnight.
For all the travel in this trip, I bought an ICOCA card, which is an underground card. Because the plan is loose, it's convenient to use this way.
As for places with entrance fees, I bought them normally. I didn't buy a special pass. Because there are only 2 places that have entrance fees.
