Sumiyoshi Taisha is the head shrine of the 2,300 Sumiyoshi Shrines across Japan. More than 2 million people visit the shrine every year for the first visit of the year. The grounds are surrounded by greenery and include the four main shrines, designated as national treasures and conveying ancient architectural styles, as well as the Soribashi (drum bridge), which is considered a symbol of Sumiyoshi, numerous cultural assets, and a sacred tree that is over 1,000 years old.
