Osaka | Central Public Hall, the iconic aesthetic of classical red brick architecture

✓ Osaka City Central Public Hall
A representative red brick Western-style building on Nakanoshima, it seems like every major city in Japan has one. The most distinctive in my impression is Motomachi in Hakodate, which is lavishly ornate. Osaka Public Hall is more classical; these red brick and stone wall buildings are quite historic, designed by Kingo Tatsuno. What’s special is that the hall was built through donations.
This vintage historic building still serves as an active public facility for cultural, artistic, and social events. The basement (B1) houses a free exhibition room that tells the history of Osaka Public Hall. At night, there are light projections, which are quite beautiful.
