First Impression of Sumitomo Pavilion: The Stunning Beauty of Architecture
The Sumitomo Pavilion was designed by renowned architect Fumihiko Maki, famous for its "steel frame suspension structure" and "floating skyline," making it a classic of modern Japanese architecture. The exterior is full of the iconic "Expo" style, sparking curiosity about how the original construction plans outlined this masterpiece.
The grandeur of the large roof design alone makes the visit worthwhile. Whether you are an architecture enthusiast, history buff, or simply looking for a unique spot, this place is worth a visit.

The Sumitomo Pavilion is divided into two main areas, offering completely different sensory experiences:
Forest Exploration Area
Upon entry, each group of visitors receives a "lamp," the core tool of the experience. Holding the lantern, you will enter a dim "forest" with a mysterious and captivating environment. At first, I was a bit lost and even spun around several times before finding my direction! When I placed the lamp at a designated spot, the nearby "mushrooms" began to glow and faint sounds could be heard, though it was hard to make out. I couldn’t help but whisper to the mushrooms, "Hey, what did you say?" A reminder to everyone: keep quiet during exploration to better immerse yourself in this magical atmosphere!
Stage Play Area
Next is a stage play combining video and live performance. Photography is prohibited, so I won’t spoil the details! The visual effects of this show are stunning, perfectly showcasing the creativity and technology of the Sumitomo Pavilion. It is definitely the highlight of the entire visit.
The whole pavilion takes about an hour to fully appreciate, with surprises in every segment that leave a lasting impression.

If you couldn’t secure an entry reservation on the official website, don’t worry. Here are two ways to help you visit smoothly:
Early Bird Slot: Enter from the East Gate before 9 AM. A no-reservation slot will be available on-site, first come, first served. It’s recommended to line up early.
Same-Day Quota: At 2 PM (14:00), same-day reservation slots will be released. This is the last chance to enter, so be sure to seize the opportunity!
