Oshino Hakkai in Japan features traditional thatched cottages, slowly turning water wheels, and stunning views of Mount Fuji

There are eight beautiful ponds surrounding Oshino Hakkai, each telling its own wonderful story.

"Hakkai" refers to the eight ponds of Oshino Hakkai, a major attraction in the area. Take advantage of the bridges and walking trails to admire the tranquil pond. With traditional thatched huts, slowly turning waterwheels, and stunning views of Mount Fuji, it feels like you've entered another era.

This small village offers stunning views all year round, making it an excellent holiday destination. In autumn, the maple trees planted interspersed with evergreens will turn a beautiful tawny color, while in winter, they are covered with layers of snow, adding a mysterious atmosphere to this peaceful village. This is a popular vacation spot and is often visited by many tourists, but even so, the area remains very quiet.

📍Address: Transportation route:
Take the train and then transfer to the bus to Oshino Hakkai.
The nearest station is Fujisan Station on the Fujikyu Line. It takes about 20 minutes by bus and gets off at Oshino Hakkaiguchi bus stop, then it is about a 5-minute walk to the main entrance.
If you drive there, get off the highway at the Yamanakako Overpass and drive for about 10 minutes to get there.

🏖️Environment/Facilities:
Almost the entire village is filled with gift shops selling all kinds of gifts, souvenirs and snacks. Most products are decorated with images of Mount Fuji, and trinkets commemorating the eight ponds are also available.
There is a small cafe and ice cream stand in the village. In addition, you can taste local specialties such as tofu topped with pickled miso and herb mochi, a green mochi made with mugwort, an herb that grows in the area. The straw cake is stuffed with red bean paste and is a delicious dessert based on red bean mochi, which is common in Japan.
