Bohol Island Ferry Tour

Did you know you can swim with whale sharks in the Philippines?
While it's well-known that you can swim with whale sharks in Oslob on Cebu Island,
I actually managed to swim with them on Bohol Island in the Philippines.
It's a relatively recent successful feeding experience, and I'd heard it was less crowded than Oslob and a hidden gem, so I'd made my hotel reservations early on in Bohol...
However, as of February 2025, the Bohol Governor has canceled the tour for environmental conservation reasons. 🥲 (There are currently no plans for a reunion.)
I was looking forward to it, so I didn't give up, so I did some research and found a tour boat departing from Momo Beach on Bohol Island.
I booked immediately!!! We rented a motorbike on Bohol Island, so we met up directly at Momo Beach and booked a tour to take the ferry to Oslob.

While whale shark tours departing from Cebu City require a land bus to Oslob, we left the hotel at 3 AM and boarded a bumpy bus for a four-hour ride that left us completely sleepless. Instead, we decided to take the ferry to Oslob, which took about two and a half hours, which seemed more comfortable than the bus. We were able to enjoy the ocean, which I love, and even get to see dolphins up close.

This time, we first arrived at Cebu Mactan Airport from Japan, then took a two-hour ferry from Cebu to Bohol. We stayed two nights at a hotel near Alona Beach on Panglao Island, then returned to Cebu by ferry. I spent two nights on Mactan Island, where the airport is located, and then flew back to Japan.

Next time, I'd like to fly directly to Bohol Airport.

It seems there's a flight from Japan, but it goes via Manila. 😄

If you're planning on visiting Cebu to swim with whale sharks,
I recommend switching to Bohol and staying a few nights.
Bohol was an absolutely beautiful island. ✨
