Ishiyama-dera Temple, located in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, is the head temple of the Toji Shingon sect. Its expansive grounds are home to numerous national treasures and important cultural properties, including the natural monument that gave the temple its name, the siliceous limestone.
We especially recommend visiting during the fall foliage season. 🍁 From mid-November to early December, approximately 1,000 maples and other trees transform the siliceous limestone into a vibrant color.
During the illumination period, the main hall, pagoda, and other national treasure buildings are beautifully illuminated. Enjoy the spectacular view of the vibrant autumn leaves during the day and the romantic illuminated space at night. ✨✨ From Friday, November 14th to Sunday, November 30th, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 9 PM, the "Atara Night Momiji" illumination event will be held. Along with the peak autumn foliage, the National Treasure building is illuminated. 💡
