Visit Notre-Dame Cathedral and Shakespeare and Company Bookstore

Notre-Dame de Paris, formally known as Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris, is the cathedral of the Catholic Archdiocese of Paris. Built between 1163 and 1250, it is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, pioneering the use of ribbed vaults, flying buttresses, and large, colorful rose windows. The cathedral is also renowned for its rich sculptures.

On April 15, 2019, the 800-year-old Notre-Dame Cathedral was nearly destroyed by a devastating fire. After years of restoration, the cathedral was reborn on December 7, 2024, local time, with a phoenix-shaped weather vane symbolizing revival placed atop its spire.

Currently, admission is free. The restored Notre-Dame Cathedral not only retains its original Gothic style but also incorporates some modern design elements. Although the newly constructed sections may appear slightly incongruous with the original structure, this does not detract from the cathedral's grandeur.

Notre-Dame has witnessed centuries of historical events, and its "successful reconstruction" symbolizes France's respect for history and culture, reminding the world of the importance of cultural heritage.

Nearby Notre-Dame Cathedral is the Shakespeare and Company bookstore, a perfect spot to queue up and embrace your inner literary enthusiast!
