#springitinerary

One of the most iconic and revered Buddhist sites in Myanmar, Shwezigon Pagoda stands proudly in Nyaung-U, just outside the ancient city of Bagan. Glistening with layers of gold leaf, this majestic stupa is more than just a landmark — it's a spiritual beacon and a stunning testament to Myanmar’s cultural and architectural heritage.

🕰️ A Legacy of Kings and Faith

Commissioned by King Anawrahta, the founder of the Bagan Empire, in the 11th century.

Completed by his son, King Kyansittha, making it one of the earliest and most important pagodas built in the Burmese style.

Said to enshrine relics of the Buddha, including a tooth, collarbone, and frontlet bone.

Guardian Statues: Four massive lion-like Chinthes stand at the entrances, protecting the sacred space.

Ancient Stone Inscriptions: Detailing early Theravāda Buddhist teachings in both Mon and Burmese script.
