Scenic Coast Hiking in Paxos

Paxos is a small Greek island that is well known for its many walking paths, which offer beautiful views of the land and the sea. These paths are what people use to walk across the island. The trails go from one end of the island to the other and connect the small villages. Most of the paths were once old donkey tracks, and they run through hills covered with ancient olive groves and cypress trees.

The views found while walking vary a lot. On the eastern side of the island, the paths often lead to quiet pebble beaches and coves with very clear, light blue water. Walkers can see small fishing boats in the harbors of villages like Loggos and Lakka. The western side of Paxos has more dramatic views. Here, the paths run near the tops of high, white limestone cliffs. From these spots, the views are wide, looking over the open Ionian Sea and to rock formations in the water, like the natural stone arch called Tripitos Arch.
