Mongkol Nimit Temple, Phuket Province

Wat Mongkol Nimit is currently the provincial royal temple of Phuket, located in Talat Nuea Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phuket Province.

Wat Mongkol Nimit, currently headed by Phra Ratchawisutthimuni, the provincial ecclesiastical chief, is one of the oldest temples in Phuket. It was likely a royal temple from the time Phuket was founded after Thalang was destroyed by the Burmese, likely around the reign of King Rama III. Previously, Phuket was located near Wat Ket Ho. It is unclear who built Wat Mongkol Nimit, but the Phuket governor has continued to renovate and maintain it. Originally, the temple land at Wat Mongkol Nimit was very extensive. The western boundary, before Yaowarat Road, extends to the temple's property, extending to Plook Panya School and Wat Khun Chi. The eastern boundary extends to Thepkasattri Road, and the area on Khao Rang, where the palm grove is now, is also the temple's property. Therefore, the temple land is currently depleted.
