Jingtong is the last stop on the Pingxi Line and a mining town steeped in history and nostalgia. Jingtong Station is not only the terminus of the Pingxi Line but also a landmark that witnessed the rise and fall of Taiwan's coal mining industry. Built in 1929, Jingtong Station is a quaint and elegant Japanese-style wooden station. Not only is it one of the few remaining wooden stations in Taiwan, it is also a designated historic monument in New Taipei City. The old ticket booths, wooden benches, and creaking beams exude a nostalgic atmosphere, transporting travelers back in time to the heyday of coal mining. Jingtong's early prosperity stemmed from the coal mining industry, and the railway primarily served to transport minerals. With the decline of the coal mining industry, the railway gradually transitioned to tourism. Today, visitors can not only experience railway culture but also explore nearby mining relics, including the Jingtong Mining Museum, coal mine tunnels, and preserved old streets. Jingtong Station is not only the terminus of the railway, but is also often regarded by many lovers as the terminus of love. Many couples choose to release sky lanterns and hang bamboo tubes here, hoping that their love can have a beautiful ending here like the train.
