The ticket I purchased for Prague Castle grants access to the following:
- St. Vitus Cathedral
- St. George's Basilica
- Old Royal Palace
- Golden Lane
Next, I entered St. George's Basilica, located right in front of St. Vitus Cathedral. This church, with its red exterior and two distinctive white spires, is quite striking. While it lacks flamboyance, the stone walls and preserved frescoes exude a sense of history. The wooden ceiling contrasts with the stone walls, creating an unusual yet intriguing atmosphere.
St. George's Basilica is the second oldest church in Prague. The original wooden structure was built in 920 by Duke Vratislav I. Over time, it underwent expansions and renovations, but a major fire in 1142 caused significant damage. It was subsequently rebuilt in stone, resulting in the current Romanesque-style structure.
Inside the St. Ludmila Chapel, frescoes depicting the life of St. Ludmila adorn the walls. St. Ludmila, the grandmother of Wenceslas I, is recognized as the first martyr of the Czech Republic. The chapel also houses relics of St. Ludmila.
