The Erythrina flower is the city flower of Quanzhou.
“Zayton (Erythrina),” the name inscribed on nautical charts by Arab merchants, once made this Eastern port known to the world. Over a thousand years ago, King Liu Congxiao of Quanzhou planted Erythrina trees all around the city to expand its walls. The flame-like red petals reflected Quanzhou's prosperity, a "hub of myriad nations amidst the roaring sea," and symbolized people's hopes for a bright future.
Come to Quanzhou this spring!
See how the Erythrina flowers ignite the ancient city with their red flames.
See how history unfolds through the petals, telling legendary tales.
After all, no city is like Quanzhou—
Where blooming flowers write poetry, and fallen petals weave history.
