Shirakome Pond is located at an altitude of 2,115 meters at the foot of the Northern Yatsugatake Mountains, and is the largest natural pond in Japan at an altitude of over 2,000 meters. Shirakome Pond is known as a summer resort and a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves in the fall, and is crowded with many tourists from early to late October. In winter, it also freezes over and becomes a natural skating rink.
