Mahout means elephant trainer.
Laos used to be called "the country of 10,000 elephants", but the number of elephants has drastically decreased due to harsh working conditions and poaching. They are protected by raising and breeding them in these protected areas.

Some people say that riding elephants is abuse, but here the elephants are given 5ha of land each and have a one-to-one relationship of trust with the mahout, and the weight of a human is about the same as carrying a 500ml plastic bottle 🏋🏻♀️
