🔖Miyama Honin – a little Japan on Hainan
🔵Name: Hainan City
🔵Map location: Amap
🔵How to get there: Taxi from Dadonghai, about 35 RMB
🔵Price: 60 RMB (30 RMB for any drink and 30 RMB for souvenirs)
🔵Opening hours: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Miyama Honin, an art cafe, library, and Japanese garden, is located in the Aranya district, which we wrote about yesterday. Photos of this very place caught our eye in Dingping, and only later did we learn that there's an entire creative district there.
🍃We love these places where the eye rests: calm lines, muted colors, and harmonious details. The atmosphere was like Kyoto (even though we weren't there). The wood interior, soft Japanese music like the trill of cicadas in summer, the light soft, and the air filled with the scent of freshly brewed coffee and the light sweetness of matcha.
🌼 We arrived in the morning, when there were hardly any people around. We grabbed tea and an ice cream shake, settled in on the terrace in front of the Japanese garden, and simply lost ourselves in the moment. Before our eyes were manicured bushes, smooth stones, dwarf pines, and distant hills shrouded in mist. We sat there, absorbed in this tranquility, and it felt like Hainan was disappearing—as if we'd been transported to a Japanese island.
⬇️You can buy souvenirs and small items here, as well as books. The shelves are well stocked with art and design literature in Chinese, English, and Japanese.
It's probably not worth making a special trip here from Dadonghai, especially if it's your first time on the island. But combining a stroll with other interesting places in the Aranya district is a great idea. And then you can also stop by "Cat Island": it's a 10-minute taxi ride away.
