Mikamine Park: A Favorite Cherry Blossom Spot in Sendai

Mikamine Park, located in Taihaku Ward of Sendai, is a renowned cherry blossom viewing destination. Situated on a gentle hill overlooking the city, the park was once the site of an old military school and has also yielded archaeological finds from the early Jomon period.

The park boasts over 750 cherry blossom trees, featuring 48 different varieties, making it the location with the most diverse cherry blossom species in Sendai. The majority of the trees are Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms. During full bloom, the sight is truly spectacular, with vast grassy areas complemented by rows of cherry trees. Locals love to come here for picnics and outdoor fun.

The park is accessible by bus from Sendai Station, with a travel time of about 30 minutes. It is located next to the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials at Tohoku University.
