Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam (TBNSA) is the largest botanical garden in Malaysia, covering over 800 hectares! Located in Shah Alam, it’s a go-to spot for eco-tourism, nature education, and leisure — perfect for the whole family.
This place has been around since 24 April 1986, originally called Taman Pertanian Bukit Cerakah. In 1991, it was renamed Taman Pertanian Malaysia Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam, and since 2007, it’s been known as Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam.
The garden opens daily from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Entry is just RM3 for adults. You can rent a bicycle for RM10 an hour, or hop on the free bus service that takes you to different attractions inside the park. As for us, we decided to just walk around aimlessly.
The vibe here is super shady and refreshing, with huge trees all around. I really enjoyed strolling here — it felt like breathing in pure oxygen!
There are plenty of spots to visit if you check the map, though some areas could use better maintenance. For example, the entrance to the Menara Cerakah trail looked abandoned, and the path to the lookout tower felt like a scene straight out of a horror movie. Only the outer section was nicely maintained. Honestly, the management should work on sprucing it up — it’s such a beautiful place, but the upkeep is disappointing.
They also have a mini animal park and an adventure zone with activities like flying fox, wall climbing, kayaking and more.
So, if you’re wondering where to go for a weekend family outing, this botanical garden might just be worth a visit.
