A city where the old and new coexist
Reviews of Yuyuan Garden, Shanghai Tower, Oriental Pearl Tower, and Wukang Building
The first time I set foot in Shanghai,
it was more dazzling than I expected,
and more serene than I imagined.
1. Yuyuan Garden
To think there is such a peaceful space in the bustling city center.
Yuyuan is not just a garden,
but a small world where the aesthetics of ancient China come alive.
Bridges laid along the waterways,
roofs connected with curves,
koi fish swimming leisurely over small ponds.
Traditional Chinese music heard from all directions
gave me the feeling of traveling through time.
A warm bite of xiaolongbao from the market alley
was as unforgettable as the scenery.
2. Shanghai Tower
The tallest building I have ever climbed.
From the 119th-floor observation deck, Shanghai looked
like a futuristic city filled with light.
On a foggy evening, above the gray sky,
the city lights spread like a ripple,
a scene too magnificent to capture in a photo,
a moment to be remembered only by the eyes.
3. Oriental Pearl Tower
The tower I only saw in childhood photos.
Seeing it in person, it was bigger and more spectacular than I imagined.
The pearl-shaped observation deck is unique,
and at night, the lights change colors,
making you realize why it’s called Shanghai’s landmark.
I also recommend walking along the riverside path around the tower.
The bustling yet stunning cityscape continues to unfold.
4. Wukang Building (Wuhan Loop Building)
A trendy spot I saved from Instagram.
It exceeded my expectations when I visited.
Curved lines flowing along the building’s exterior,
antique bricks and vintage windows.
Especially at sunset, when warm sunlight settles on the building,
a truly cinematic scene unfolds.
It was a perfect place for taking photos,
and there are many charming cafes nearby to relax.
⸻
Shanghai holds a sparkling future,
ancient history, and emotions in between.
A city that feels unfamiliar yet quickly becomes familiar,
one I want to revisit again and again.
