Make Sure to Try Xiaolongxia During Your July Trip to China!

From May to July, it's the season for Chinese crayfish (小龙虾). While you can enjoy Xiaolongxia all year round in China, eating them during this period means savoring the plump, seasonal crayfish at their best.

I visited a popular Shanghai restaurant known for Xiaolongxia, Da Hao Qian Tu Lobster BBQ & Hot Pot (Pujiang Happy Song Branch), which was just a 20-minute walk from my hotel.

My friend and I ordered soy sauce-based Xiaolongxia with added rice cakes, along with various skewers and grilled seafood. Interestingly, this restaurant allows you to choose the size of the crayfish, so we opted for the larger ones for easier peeling. The total cost was 341 yuan.

Although Xiaolongxia is often enjoyed with a spicy mala flavor, I prefer the soy sauce base, which is sweet and complements the plump crayfish perfectly. I especially love the head part of the crayfish, which I think is the highlight.

The grilled oysters and scallops we ordered were tender and flavorful, with a hint of garlic that made them irresistible. We also tried various skewers, including pork belly, beef, and beef cartilage, and every dish was absolutely delicious.

If you're traveling to China during the Xiaolongxia season, don't miss the chance to try these delicious crayfish 🦞🇨🇳♥️
