Go trekking in Deqin, Yunnan, and experience a slow-paced journey through Shangri-La!

Shangri-La is the heart of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan, globally renowned for Shangri-La and the Meili Snow Mountains. Besides visiting the sacred Meili Snow Mountains in Diqing, trekking in Shangri-La is also a wonderful travel experience. Savor the unique charm of Shangri-La at a slower pace. Here are some trekking tips for Shangri-La.

1. Must-see attractions: Dukezong Ancient Town, Dafo Temple, Baiji Temple, Diqing Red Army Long March Museum, Beimenpo Ruins, Jinlong Street, Moonlight Square, Longtan Park, and Sifang Street. The entire trek takes less than five hours and offers a high sightseeing value.

2. Trekking route: Starting from Moonlight Square, first visit the Red Army Long March Museum, then trek uphill to Dafo Temple to admire the largest prayer wheel and the panoramic view of Diqing's ancient town. After descending, trek to Sifang Street and then to Beimenpo Ruins to see what Dukezong Ancient Town looked like before 2014. Continue uphill to visit Baiji Temple. Finally, trek to Longtan Park to enjoy the beautiful scenery. This trekking route is very relaxing and enjoyable.

3. Accommodation: Dukezong Ancient Town offers many cost-effective guesthouses and inns. There are also many good hotels in the city center. Hotel rates in Shangri-La are generally affordable, around CNY 200.

4. Food and accommodation: Although Diqing is a Tibetan area, the catering service industry is quite well-developed. There are many restaurants to choose from on the streets, with an average cost of CNY 70 per meal.

5. Precautions: Whether in Deqin or Shangri-La in the center of Diqing, altitude sickness and dry weather are quite common. Pay attention to altitude sickness and sun protection, especially those with underlying cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. If necessary, carry some medication with you, such as metoprolol tartrate, just in case.
