Shangri-la, 香格里拉, in Yunnan's

Shangri-la, 香格里拉, in Yunnan's Tibetan region, really lives up to the name. I visited in mid-April 2018 and it was the perfect time to be there: it was sunny every day but not hot and the plum and other trees were flowering. Guishan Temple, 龟山寺, stands atop a small hill covered in these blossoming trees. At night it's garishly lit in changing colours but during the day the pink and white blossoms and gold roofs make it a beautiful sight. The temple complex is home to the world's largest prayer wheel, Zhuangjin Tong. Join the locals and tourists and help turn it!
Shangri-la is above 3000 metres, so some people may experience altitude sickness here.
Shangri-la is highly recommended though, and for spring blossoms, go in mid-April.
